We've been serving God and the Greater Lafayette community since 1839. From our early days meeting in the County Courthouse, to our current location at 6th and North in Downtown Lafayette, we have been foocused on spreading the Good News of God's grace and love far and wide. At First Christian Church you will find a caring, compassionate, and welcoming congregation that respects and celebrates a diversity of opinions while challenging you to grow in your own faith.
Our symbol for this is the table: the space that God prepares for all people to gather together, regardless of where we are on our own faith journey. And we believe, specifically, that it is up to us to build a bigger table, so that there is room for all seeking a relationship with Jesus to gather together.
At First Christian Church we believe that the communion table is the center of our life together. At it, Jesus Christ calls each of us to come together in remembrance of him and to receive the grace of a loving God. This table, and our church as an extension of it, is for everyone. Therefore, we welcome individuals into full participation in the life of the community regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, race, ethnicity, faith background, socioeconomic status, age, marital status, nationality, political stance, or physical as well as mental ability.
